The driving demand for weight reduction, energy saving, pollution control and health care, particularly in relation to transports, portable microelectronics and telecommunications, has stimulated significant increase in production and consumption of magnesium alloys all over the world.  In addition to the markets of magnesium consumption and application in Europe and North America, Asia has quickly become into a world leading magnesium producers and consumers for automotive, electronic components and so on.  The researchers and scientists in Asia, especially in China, Japan, Korea, have responded to this growing industrial activities in magnesium alloys and their applications and established a symposium entitled “Asian Symposium on Magnesium alloys (ASMA)” which was to take place in every two years and held in turn in these three countries.  Up to now, two of this symposium has taken place in Jeju, Korea during October 11-14, 2005 and in Fukuoka, Japan during October 1-3, 2007, respectively.  It is our great pleasure to invite participants and delegates to the 3rd Asia Symposium on Magnesium Alloys (ASMA-III) that will be held at Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang, China at the end of September 2009.
